Charleston Wine + Food: Events I’m Looking Forward To

Charleston Wine + Food: Events I’m Looking Forward To

Thurs 3/1: Sorghum & Salt Signature Dinner feat. Sara Kramer + Sarah Hymanson of Kismet

Chef Tres Jackson’s (Sorghum and Salt) mastery in blending unique ingredients, textures and flavors is what makes his food standout for me. He often uses asian ingredients in a completely surprising (and non-asian) way, which is why I’m so excited to see his collaboration with the ladies of Kismet which features a menu of Middle Eastern flavors. Both Kismet and Sorghum & Salt opened early 2017 featuring small plate menus that are vegetable centric, it’ll be interesting for me to see what influence Sara and Sarah’s west coast cookery and mideast flavors have on Chef Jackson’s distinctive cooking style.

Fri 3/2: Mex 1 Coastal Cantina Tequila Lunch

Tequila at noon on a workday? CHS Wine + Food made me do it! Mex 1 is more than just a cantina with laid back Cali vibes dishing out tacos. Their commitment to authenticity is what truly sets them apart. Led by chef Ryan Jones who previously headed Society Cafe in Las Vegas, named “Best New Restaurant in America” by Esquire magazine, and beverage director Morgan Hurley who recently won the 2018 Wine and Food Cocktail Competition, Mex 1 is serious about good food and good tequila.

Sat 3/3: #BrunchSquad

I’m really excited for this event for several reasons 1) it’s brunch and who doesn’t like brunch 2) attendees get to actively participate in the prepping and making of the brunch 3) the chef lineup for the event is awesome! Participating chefs in the event include Charleston’s own Carrie Morey (Callie’s Hot Biscuits) and Cynthia Wong (Butcher & Bee), as well as Sara Kramer and Sarah Hymanson (Kismet), Michael Solomonov (Federal Doughnuts) and my favorite Top Chef contestant/winner of all time, Kristen Kish.

Sun 3/4: Namaste Bubbly

After a couple of days of heavy eating (and drinking) the idea of a little yoga can only be made better with a little champagne with said yoga. The event will feature a yoga class taught by Sarah Frick of Charleston Power Yoga, DJ Beats, 10 Chef Stations and of course champs!

Sun 3/4: Culinary Village

Charleston Wine + Food offers locals special pricing for the culinary village on Sunday, making it the perfect day to go. The culinary village features several areas, the corkyard, the biergarten, the hub, an artisan market and new this year, ‘the gourmetisserie” and the main stage which will feature chef demos. Participating chefs this year include Maneet Chauhan, Sheldon Simeon and James London whose restaurant Chubby Fish will open its doors in Charleston soon.
