What’s Happening in Charleston: April 2018
Volvo Car Open March 31-April 8
The Volvo Car Open (formerly known as the Family Circle Cup) is the largest women only tennis tournament and is held on Daniel Island. Some big players this year are two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova, VCO defending champ Daria Kasatkina and 2016 champion Sloane Stevens. Shelby Rogers, who grew up in Mt Pleasant, withdrew due to injury.
The tournament is offering free admission to children 16 and under and running Family Weekend rates Saturday, March 31 & Sunday, April 1, with adult tickets being only $10.
More than just a tennis tournament, the Volvo Car Open will feature many family and children’s activities. The tournament will also host the PowerShare Series on Saturday, April 7th featuring some of the greatest retired male players, this year these include Andy Roddick, Michael Chang and Tommy Haas.

Cooper River Bridge Run April 7
Whether you’re a runner, walker or just looking for an excuse to drink early in the day, the Cooper River Bridge Run is one of the biggest events in Charleston every year. The race is the 3rd largest 10K in the US and averages 400,000 participants. The bridge run raises funds for 15 charities including Pet Helpers, Ronald McDonald House, Special Olympics of SC and Water Mission. This year Mitchell Lee a Citadel graduate, who recently competed on The Voice will be kicking off the race with the National Anthem and will also be performing on the main stage at Marion Square post-race.

Lowcountry Cajun Festival April 8
Held at the James Island County Park, the Lowcountry Cajun Festival brings live music and the best in Cajun and Creole foods (as well as standard festival food). Activities include a kids carnival and crawfish eating contest.

Charleston Race Week April 12-15
This three-day regatta offers fabulous beach parties each evening and competitive racing in the harbor and offshore.

High Water Festival April 21-22
Held at the Riverfront Park in North Charleston the High Water Festival is a celebration of music, food and libations. This year's artists include Jason Isbell, Band of Horses, Shovels & Rope, Brandy Carlile and many more. The High Water Festival will also provide three unique experiences: Pass the Peas, Lowtide Social and Oyster Education Classes. Pass the Peas will celebrate Southern cuisine and feature chefs such as Jacques Larson, Carrie Morey, and Rodney Scott. Lowcountry Social will feature an eclectic night of music celebrating some of Charleston’s finest musicians with a dream team of Charleston bartenders and a Lowcountry boil. Seaborne Oyster Co. will also be hosting four oyster education classes.
